The TEMBO BARCELONA hotel has recently opened, a new icon in the city’s hotel sector. With 28,000 m² across two V-shaped buildings of 18-floor towers, All the 280 suites & apartments with terrace and views overlooking the sea and the city of Barcelona. It also features eight fully equipped meeting rooms with audiovisual equipment, five MICE spaces totaling 1,000 m², and a wide range of restaurants and chill-out areas, gym and a rooftop infinity pool with breathtaking views of Barcelona. Furthermore, it boasts Biosphere sustainability certification.

The project, developed in partnership with Datacom.Global and Cisco, has transformed this space into a vibrant digital environment, adapted to new ways of traveling, living, and working in the digital age.

CHALLENGE

After completing the building, TEMBO Barcelona realised that the IT infrastructure was inadequate and did not meet expectations. Therefore, they commissioned DatacomGlobal to conduct a comprehensive audit of the existing system, understand the company’s needs, and identify potential risks—such as single points of failure, non-redundant links, potential bottlenecks, operational complexity, and potential security vulnerabilities.

DatacomGlobal proposed a new architecture to Tembo, based on Cisco Meraki’s full-stack architecture and complemented with Cisco collaboration and cybersecurity solutions, with the goal of providing Tembo with a future-proof building, starting today. This architecture is scalable, redundant, secure, sustainable, and easy to manage. Furthermore, a Wi-Fi coverage study was conducted to ensure a high-quality Wi-Fi 6 implementation for uniform coverage and exceptional connection speeds throughout the entire building, from the rooftop to the parking garage, including all accommodations, meeting rooms, MICE spaces, restaurants, and all common areas.

DEPLOYMENT

The project was structured into four clear stages.

Diagnosis: a physical, logical, and operational assessment, including meticulous consulting to understand the existing infrastructure and risks.
Redesign: a resilient topology, advanced security policies, and a radio frequency plan tailored to the expected data density and volume.
Validation: failover testing, penetration testing, and verification of services and coverage.
Knowledge transfer: training for the IT team on unified dashboards, alert configuration, and risk signal identification.

As a remarkable point: The consulting, design, and implementation phases were conducted in parallel, single points of failure were eliminated, and simple operability was ensured from day one.

RESULTS

Beyond the technical aspects, what made the project truly special was its time-to-size-to-quality ratio: delivering, assembling, configuring, and optimizing a deployment of approximately 325 access points, around 40 switches, cameras, sensors, and a security layer capable of mitigating the main attack vectors, all in a very short time, guaranteeing a better-than-home experience for every user. That alone makes it special.
